Patrik Weßling studied chemistry at the University of Heidelberg and received his master of science in 2017. For his master’s thesis, he joined the group of Prof. Dr. Panak studying the complexation and extraction of trivalent actinides and lanthanides with malonamides used for solvent extraction processes. He continued with his PhD working on the optimization of the EURO-GANEX process – a solvent extraction process designed to separate actinides from spent nuclear fuel. He graduated 2020 by receiving his PhD.

Since then he has been working as a research scientist at KIT-INE and University of Heidelberg in the group of Prof. Dr. Panak. His main research interests are the complexation and extraction of actinides and lanthanides with N-, O- or mixed N-,O-donor ligands in aqueous and organic solutions using different spectroscopic methods (time-resolved laser fluorescence spectroscopy, vibronic-sideband spectroscopy, UV/Vis, etc.)
