Jörn Nitsch obtained his diploma in Chemistry from the WWU Münster and his Ph.D. from the University of Würzburg (Prof. Andreas Steffen) in 2015, where he worked on the development of novel luminescent transition metal complexes. After a two‐year DFG postdoctoral fellowship with Prof. F. Matthias Bickelhaupt in Amsterdam, focusing on theoretical chemistry and working on the description of excited states for luminescent compounds, he spent three years in Prof. Todd B. Marder’s group, where he supervised the spectroscopy lab. He joined Prof. Petra Panak’s group in 2021 working in the GRaZ II project and using emission spectroscopy for the examination of the coordination chemistry of radionuclides with ligands, which are relevant in a long-term geological repository.
