Andrej Skerencak-Frech started his undergraduate studies in 2000 at the University of Karlsruhe. After finishing the basic grade studies and receiving his pre-diploma in 2002 he changed to the University of Heidelberg for the advanced grade studies. He graduated in 2007 in the working group of Prof. Dr. Thomas Fanghänel. In his diploma thesis he studied the complexation of Cm(III) with nitrate at increased temperatures. Within the scope of his PhD studies he continued his research in this field under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Thomas Fanghänel and Prof. Dr. Petra Panak at the KIT-INE. He graduated in 2010 by receiving his PhD. In his thesis he studied the complexation and thermodynamics of Cm(III) and Am(III) with inorganic ligands at 25 to 200°C by different spectroscopic methods.

 

From 2010 he is working as a research fellow at the KIT-INE and University of Heidelberg in the working group of Prof. Dr. Petra Panak. His main research interests are the application of different spectroscopic methods (time resolved laser fluorescence spectroscopy; extend xray absorption finestructre spectroscopy, UV/Vis/NIR absorption spectroscopy) to study the aquatic chemistry and the thermodynamics of actinides in saline solutions and at high temperatures. Furthermore, he is in charge of the radiochemistry laboratories in Heidelberg, including radiation protection issues and the supervision of training courses for undergraduate students.

 

Besides the work he likes jogging, playing the guitar, dancing, skiing and traveling.
